The European Union flag celebrates its 40th anniversary this June. With its 12 iconic gold stars set against a blue background, the flag is instantly recognisable and has become a powerful symbol of the European project, representing unity and solidarity among Europeans.
At the European Council meeting on June 26–27, EU leaders focused on strengthening the EU’s defence readiness and enhancing competitiveness. They also discussed ongoing efforts to support peace in Ukraine and welcomed the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran.
From June 28, essential services across the EU—including the emergency number 112, banking, public transport and other key services—must be accessible to all European citizens, particularly the 100 million people with disabilities living in the EU. This includes requirements such as accessible ATM interfaces and ensuring that online banking services can be used by everyone.
